About the Author in Brief...
Ratnasiri Suriyaarachchi, also known as Suri, is a poet, playwright, translator, fairy tale writer, social and cultural activist, businessman in the tourism sector, and a guide. By profession, he is a teacher and a translator. While promoting Sri Lankan culture in Poland, Suri works in various ways to introduce Polish cultural elements to his motherland. He has lived in Poland for over 30 years. Although he holds three degrees/postgraduate degrees in Business Administration, Marketing Management, and the English language, he possesses the soul of an aesthete.
While in Sri Lanka, he had a deep interest in theatre, dance, drama, and poetic literature; in Poland, he is engaged in educational, cultural, and social activities. He is the only translator who writes, thinks, and translates into Sinhala using the Polish language. Polish society recognizes Suri as the "Unofficial Sri Lankan Cultural Ambassador."
As a poet, Suri began his journey in 1982 in Sri Lanka and in 1998 in Poland. In 2003, he published his maiden poetry collection titled "Między rzeką a rzeką" (Between River and River). Suri has won awards in several Polish poetry competitions. His poems have been translated into German, Russian, and English, and are published in Polish newspapers and journals, as well as frequently broadcast on Radio Katowice.
He was the initiator and co-organizer of relief projects to collect funds for the reconstruction of Sri Lankan schools destroyed by the 2004 Tsunami.
Suri is also the creator and coordinator of an alternative educational project concerning the diverse cultures of foreign countries, which is held throughout a week in the city of Ruda Śląska.
